What does Mooloolaba have in common with Santa Cruz (USA), Nice (FRA), Erkner (GER), Belgrade (SRB) and Dali (CHN)?
They are all host cities for an IRONMAN 70.3 event on September 13, 2026.
The 13th IRONMAN 70.3 Sunshine Coast competition will stretch along Mooloolaba Esplanade from the Northern Parklands to The Spit, with this year’s event is expected to attract over 2000 competitors participating in a 1.9km swim, 90km bike ride and 21.1km run.
- For traffic condition changes affecting the Sunshine Motorway, Mooloolaba, Alexandra Headland, Maroochydore and Cotton Tree use the interactive map.
- Transport options into Mooloolaba include walking, riding, Kinetic buses (50c fares), the Mooloolaba Ferry ($15 return) and a Free Park ‘n’ Ride service for participants, spectators and Mooloolaba-based staff and workers on Sunday, operating 4.30am-5.30pm from Mountain Creek State High School to River Esplanade, Mooloolaba
- Waste collection services in the event precinct will be earlier than normal. For Sunday bin collection, put bins out Saturday night in your usual collection location.
- Sunday morning southbound access to Sunshine Coast Airport is via David Low Way. Northbound travellers must take the Twin Waters exit. Plan for traffic delays and allow extra travel time.
Mooloolaba is one of 103 race locations for the IRONMAN 70.3 around the world and one of three along Australia’s east coast. Event organisers appreciate how much the Sunshine Coast businesses and community working together to make it happen in such a well-loved location.

More than 400 riders, along with their families, officials and spectators, will travel here from across Australia to race for national titles across four days for the AusCycling Masters & Juniors Road Cycling National Championships, 17-20 September, North Arm/Yandina.
Some of the riders are only 13 years old. Every junior racing at the event has been selected to represent their state or territory, and for many this will be the first time trying to win a national championship. Jai Hindley, who went on to win the Giro d’Italia, and Tour de France stage winner Caleb Ewan both raced these championships as juniors. To keep riders and the community safe, some local roads will be fully closed while racing on these three days:
- Thursday 17 September (9am to 2.30pm) North Arm to Yandina
- Saturday 19 September (7am to 5.30pm) Yandina -> Bridges ->North Arm -> Ninderry
- Sunday 20 September (7am to 5pm) Yandina -> Bridges ->North Arm -> Ninderry
