The Australian Championships for Touch Rugby League (TRL) will be held in the Sunshine Coast region in 2025 and 2026.

TRL is super fast, smooth and exciting non-contact rugby league, incorporating kicking and proper league play-the-balls.

The sport is now played from Townsville right down the Eastern seaboard to Melbourne.

TRL Australia is extremely excited to partner with Sunshine Coast Council to bring this flagship event to the region, with the main venues in Maroochydore - Maroochydore Rugby League and Immanuel College Ovals.

The Sunshine Coast is a beautiful part of Australia and is both an incredible sporting and holiday destination. It is also plays home to some of Australia’s largest TRL social competitions at Maroochydore and Kawana.

Sunshine Coast Economy Portfolio Councillor Terry Landsberg invited the 25 TRL regions from across Australia to register their best players for the championships and explore the Sunshine Coast Biosphere.

“As it’s the first time the national championships are being held on the Sunshine Coast, I know our local players will welcome these visiting teams and together make some sunshine moments on and off the field,” Cr Landsberg said.

“Sport is an important part of our lifestyle, and we are also a sports training destination for many codes including rugby league and touch.

“It’s through sports event sponsorships like this, we are creating opportunities that also strengthen our local economy, now and into the future.”

CEO of TRL Australia, Tom Longworth, is equally as excited, saying the Sunshine Coast was an incredible destination to showcase our great game and provides players, officials and spectators the perfect place to also relax and unwind."

“We look forward to what the next two years will bring for one of TRL's most glamorous Events", Mr Longworth said.

“The Sunshine Coast is a beautiful part of Australia and is both an incredible sporting and holiday destination.’’
