The Cooee Grommet Pro is set to take place this weekend and Monday, from 14 to 16 December 2024, on the Sunshine Coast. This unique event is one of the few in Australia designed specifically for 'micro groms,' featuring divisions ranging from the Under 8 Mixed parent-assist division to the seasoned Under 16 junior surfers.

Cooee is making waves on the beach this summer, joining forces with Surfing Queensland to present the Cooee Grommet Pro for three years, building on the success of the inaugural event in 2023.

As one of the final grommet competitions on the 2024 Surfing Queensland national calendar, the Cooee Grommet Pro offers an exciting blend of fun and competition. This 5,500-point-ranked event provides groms with a valuable opportunity to secure essential points for the National Junior Rankings, wrapping up their 2024 campaign and enhancing their standings for the 2025 season.

Neil Jensen, Owner and Managing Director of Cooee, expressed his enthusiasm for hosting the event for the second year, highlighting its importance in supporting the youngest competitive surfers.

“We’re thrilled to bring back the Cooee Grommet Pro for a second year, celebrating young surfers and fostering community spirit,” said Neil.

“This year, we’re also excited to showcase our all-new range of vibrant Cooee products, designed for fun at the beach, pool, and backyard. The Cooee Grommet Pro is all about surfing, family, and creating unforgettable memories, and we can’t wait to see the incredible talent and energy that this year’s event will bring. We’re especially grateful for the amazing efforts of Surfing Queensland. Their dedication and hard work behind the scenes truly makes this event possible. We encourage everyone to come down this weekend, enjoy the atmosphere, and support the next generation of young surfers!”

Elliot Dempster, Head of Operations at Surfing Queensland, expressed his enthusiasm about delivering the Cooee Grommet Pro on the Sunshine Coast.

"The Cooee Grommet Pro provides an ideal platform for our youngest surfers to gain valuable competitive experience, and we’re thrilled to be partnering with Cooee to deliver this event for the second consecutive year," said Dempster.

"I’m excited to watch the micro groms kick off their competitive surfing journey, alongside the older surfers who will be pushing their limits and showcasing their skills. With competition points determining the final national rankings, the stakes are high, making this event even more enjoyable!"

In addition to the surf competition, the Cooee Grommet Pro will feature a range of beach activities, games and product giveaways to keep competitors and spectators entertained throughout the event.
