ASPAC Lacrosse hits Sunshine Coast
The Asia-Pacific’s best women’s field lacrosse players will descend on the Sunshine Coast next week, with the 2025 ASPAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship World Qualifiers to be hosted by Lacrosse Australia from January 6-11.
With the 2026 World Lacrosse Women’s Championship recently moving to a qualification format, eight contenders will join headliner and world number four Australia in vying to qualify.
Joining Australia at this event will be five countries ranked in the world top 21 including Japan (5), New Zealand (12), Hong Kong, China (16), China (19), Korea (21), as well as newcomers Chinese Taipei and the Philippines.
The event will be held at the Kawana Sports Precinct, which is the premier venue for sport, leisure and entertainment events on the Sunshine Coast and spectators are welcome to come along and show support.
Excitement is at an all-time high after lacrosse’s recent inclusion as an Olympic sport, and Australia is expecting to be right in the media mix when the sport debuts at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Lacrosse Australia chair Abbie Burgess-Brice said that the organisation was thrilled to welcome the Asia-Pacific region’s best women’s lacrosse players to the Sunshine Coast for this landmark event.
“Australia is honoured to host the 2025 Asia-Pacific Women’s Lacrosse Championship World Qualifiers, marking an important milestone for lacrosse in our region,” Ms Burgess-Brice said.
“This event highlights our commitment to growing lacrosse and providing a platform for excellence at the highest level now that we are in the Olympic era.”
Ms Burgess-Brice said that Lacrosse Australia is encouraging locals to come down to the event to experience perhaps their first taste of the sport.
“This is an incredible opportunity to showcase Australian talent, connect with the global lacrosse community, and inspire the next generation of players across Australia.”
