Sunshine Coast residents are invited to enjoy world-class parks and facilities through outdoor yoga, fitness or Pilates as part of Parks Week 2024, which starts on Saturday, March 2.
You can also collect free trees to take home and enhance your own properties.
From Peregian Springs in the north to the Glass House Mountains in the south and the stunning coastline and tranquil hinterland in between, our region is home to almost 1300 outstanding natural parks and open spaces.
Some are internationally recognised, like Buderim Village Park and the Kings Beach Precinct, recently heralded with The Green Flag Award.
What is Parks Week all about?
Parks Week 2024 celebrates the theme ‘How spending time in our parks and open spaces positively influences our wellbeing’. The Sunshine Coast’s recreation parks and open spaces play a fundamental role in creating liveable cities and thriving communities.
During Parks Week, Healthy Sunshine Coast encourages everyone to enjoy time in nature with low-cost classes in some of Council’s most beautiful park locations.
Healthy Sunshine Coast is Council's flagship community health and wellbeing program. It is a holistic, low-cost program suitable for all ages and abilities. The program aims to help you move well, eat well, sleep well, think well, connect well, all while enjoying nature.
Sunshine Coast ratepayers can collect two free trees from Council’s Nursery and chat with the friendly and experienced Parks and Gardens team to learn more about our region's native plants.
How it can change your life
Group Executive for Economic and Community Development Greg Laverty said spending time in nature, or at a local park, could change your mindset and refresh energy levels.
“Immerse yourself in nature this Parks Week and appreciate how spending time in our green spaces can improve your mood and wellbeing,” Mr Laverty said.
“If you’re looking to go the extra mile this Parks Week, why not join Healthy Sunshine Coast and come along to the Morning Rise Yoga session at 6am on March 6 at Bokarina to start your day with movement in one of our region's beautiful outdoor spaces.”
