Maroons to Train on Sunshine Coast for Origin
In exciting news for State of Origin fans, Queensland Rugby League has shared that the Queensland Maroons will connect with our thriving Sunshine Coast rugby league community this year confirming all three team camps will be held on the Sunshine Coast.

The new base paves the way for the Maroons to engage with participants from the region’s strong junior and senior leagues, which in 2024 grew by more than eight per cent and hosted one of the largest junior RISE programs in the state.
Maroons players will have access to a training field and gym, as well as the beach for recovery sessions, in preparation for games in Brisbane, Perth and Sydney.
With these facilities and its close proximity to Sunshine Coast Airport, Novotel Twin Waters has a proven record of hosting professional sporting teams over the years.
While previous Maroons teams have been based at Coolum, this series will mark the team’s first campaign based out of Twin Waters following many years at the Gold Coast’s Sanctuary Cove.
“It’s a great set up with everything we need for the players to prepare well,” Maroons coach Billy Slater said.
“When the opportunity came up to look at returning to the Sunshine Coast, it became clear that it was the right fit for our group as well as the QRL.
“We’re really looking forward to getting up there in May and settling into a passionate rugby league area that has a long and proud history of producing Maroons.”
Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli said it was very exciting to have the Maroons choose the Sunshine Coast as their training location prior to State of Origin events.
“This is excellent news for our junior and senior players and general fans who will see the state’s best footballers up close.
“It’s also proof that our fantastic facilities, optimal climate and relaxed culture enables the team to prepare adequately for big matches,” Mayor Natoli said.
“The Sunshine Coast is a great destination for elite sports teams to train, stay and play.”
