Zest up your winter garden with citrus masterclass

Citrus is the bounty of winter, and this is your chance to hone your citrus growing skills with an internationally renowned fruit tree expert.

Birdwood Nursery co-founder and horticultural legend Peter Young will host the hands-on Citrus Care Workshop on July 15 to share practical knowledge for growing citrus trees as part of the Living Lab @ The MET workshop series.

The workshop will help citrus growers at any stage improve their knowledge, from beginners with a potted lemon tree to orchard growers with more technical questions.

Cost: Tickets $12.90 per person, hurry sales close July 14.

The small workshop is limited to 25 people to maximise the experience for participants.

During the three-hour event, participants will delve into:

  • Selecting the right variety for your needs
  • Understanding rootstock influences
  • Planting and pruning techniques
  • Mulching and optimal fertiliser timing
  • Citrus tree origins and functions
  • Effective management of common pests and diseases.

Sunshine Coast Council’s Living Smart program supports this event as part of the Living Lab @ The MET workshop series.

About Peter Young

Peter has more than 40 years’ experience in fruit tree cultivation on the Sunshine Coast and co-founded Birdwood Nursery in Woombye.

He now speaks for international conferences, writes for industry magazines and appears on gardening and news television programs.

He has served as chairman for both the Queensland Garden Expo and the Brisbane International Garden Show.
