World Lacrosse Women’s Qualifier coming to Sunshine Coast
The Asia Pacific’s best Women’s field lacrosse players are set to descend on the Sunshine Coast next January with the Asia Pacific Lacrosse Union naming Australia as the host of the 2025 ASPAC Championship - World Lacrosse Women’s Qualifier, which will be held from January 6-11, 2025.

With the 2026 World Lacrosse Women Championship moving to a qualification format, 10 contenders will descend on Australia with the world number 4 Australia headlining the qualifiers.
Joining Australia will be five countries ranked in the world top 21 being Japan (5), New Zealand (12), China (19), Korea (21) and Hong Kong, China (16) as well as four newcomers in India, Iran, Philippines and Chinese Taipei.
The event will be held at the Kawana Sports Precinct which is the premier precinct for sport, leisure and entertainment events on the Sunshine Coast.
Sports Precinct Venue Manager Simon Ball said it was really exciting to welcome an international lacrosse tournament to the Sunshine Coast.
“The 2025 ASPAC Championship - World Lacrosse Women’s Qualifier will bring 10 nations from across the world to the region and will add to the Sunshine Coast’s calendar of elite women’s sport," Ball said.
"Events like these are a fantastic opportunity to further position the Sunshine Coast as a premier destination for high performance sport and showcase our region and facilities to the world.”
The event marks the first time Australia has hosted a World Lacrosse event since the Men’s World Championship in 2002.
Lacrosse Australia Director of High Performance Paul Mollison said Lacrosse Australia was delighted to host this world event on the Sunshine Coast at such a fantastic venue.
“It is great to welcome the lacrosse world back to Australia and to start our push into Queensland as part of our Brisbane ’32 strategy”.
The Qualifiers will see 4 teams punch their tickets to the World Lacrosse Women Championship which will be held in Japan in 2026 with Australian Vice Captain, Ashtyn Hiron excited to compete on the Sunshine Coast.
Hiron said competing on home soil in a World Championship qualifier with Australia across our chest is something we all dream of and an opportunity to show the world that women in our program are made of the good stuff.
“The culture, camaraderie and mateship of Australian Women’s Lacrosse teams make our World Championship campaigns all the more exciting, especially as we work toward a gold medal in Japan in 2026, Hiron said.”
The 2025 ASPAC Championship - World Lacrosse Women’s Qualifier will be held at the Kawana Sports Precinct in Bokarina on the Sunshine Coast from January 6-11, 2025 with event information to be released over the coming months.
