Sunshine Coast Council Economy Portfolio Councillor Jason O’Pray said bowls was still primarily enjoyed by seniors, but that people of all ages were increasingly playing this year-round sport.
Cr O’Pray advocated that bowls was a little different from other sports because it allowed equal parts exercise, skill and social elements.
“Making it a great sport to engage our older community to keep active and maintain social connections.
“While many of our major events attract visitors to the region, the longer stays for this event are quite unique and means a lot for our local businesses and our tourism industry.
“Another reason Council see’s great value in sponsoring this tournament,” Cr O’Pray said.
