A wildly popular school holiday program is back to bring kids the joy of imagination and creative play using real building materials and tools.

The MET, in partnership with Wildlings and Sunshine Coast Council’s Living Smart initiative, will run the City Makers – Loose Parts Workshop across three days during the April school holidays, encouraging kids aged 3-12 to create art, tinker, design and construct miniature cities.

Kids can also engage in nature-based play activities in the kitchen garden area with Robyn Cook, the Kitchen Garden Teacher.

Trained staff will help kids learn how to use the real hand-tools provided to bring their imaginings to life.

The Colombian Coffee Co. will be open on site for hot drinks and tasty treats; remember to bring your own coffee cup if possible and show the young ones you value the planet.

Previous City Builder programs have sold out, so you’ll need to act fast to book your tickets.

SAVE THE DATE

When: April 3, 4 and 5, 9.30am-11.30am
Where: The MET, Corner First Ave and South Sea Islander Way, Maroochydore
Cost: Tickets $8 per child, per session, bookings essential online
Bring: Hat, water, sunscreen, snacks, picnic rug or chair for parents

The workshop will provide a playground of miscellaneous materials from nature or repurposed from building sites, along with tools including hand saws, hammers and nails to build their creations.

Council’s Living Smart Program will provide activities to help children build a garden village using small loose parts, make tiny homes for tiny creatures from clay and natural materials, and make a bamboo trellis for climbing plants.

A parent must be present during the session and should directly supervise children aged under five who are using hand tools.

However, parents are otherwise encouraged to relax, socialise and give kids space to run wild.

This event is held in partnership with Living Smart, a Sunshine Coast Council program encouraging and empowering the community on its sustainability journey.
