Encouraging women to be ‘unapologetically themselves’

We asked Jordyn James, who has forged an impressive community through the power of dance, to share a taste of her story ahead of her upcoming appearance at Sunshine Coast Council’s Altitude Nine International Women’s Day (IWD) event.

Jordyn James.

Q. How long have you lived on the Sunshine Coast?

A. 24-years, I am originally from Melbourne.

Q. What are you best known for?

A. I would say that I am best known for my company Burlesque L’amour.

Q. What has been your proudest moment so far?

A. Every day I have proud moments, it’s so hard to choose a single moment. I’m so proud every day of the space that I have created when I see the impact it has had on women’s lives and the confidence and self-belief they have gained through our brand. I feel so blessed to witness these moments daily.

Q. What’s your top tip on how to succeed in business?

A. Stay true to your purpose and your values always. When things may feel overwhelming always draw back to your values and purpose.

Q. What’s the biggest challenge you have overcome?

A. Covid. It was such a huge challenge. I had to work so much harder to keep my community alive. Adapting to a whole new way of running my brand overnight was not easy. But showing up for my community was my number one priority. And it paid off, as our community actually grew through this time.

Q. What’s something about you that would surprise people?

A. Although I may seem really confident and positive 24/7, just like everyone else I have my days and my battles and let me just say... imposter syndrome is a real thing.

Q. Why is it important to celebrate International Women’s Day?

A. At Burlesque L’amour we celebrate women every single day. Knowing the positive impact celebrating women has on women’s lives I think it’s so important to celebrate it as a worldwide community.
