Celebrate a century of fun at Maleny Show

You can be part of history this weekend by attending the 100th anniversary of the Maleny Show.
It’s an impressive run for the Maleny Show Society, which launched the inaugural event on June 26 & 27, 1923.
During these early years, the show facilities were sparse. Meals and refreshments were served under a tent on the hill before the showground pavilion was completed in 1924.

The rich farming culture and dairy cattle industry was showcased in breath-taking parades and exhibits which drew crowds of people from far and wide to the Maleny district.
Since then, the show program has grown to include pedigree dog shows, show bags and carnival rides.
You can visit the Maleny Show this week on Friday, June 2 (a public holiday for the Caloundra area) and Saturday, June 3. Gates open from 7am.

Sunshine Coast Council Division 5 Councillor Winston Johnston said 100 years was an impressive feat and one that showed the dedication of the thousands of volunteers giving their time to showcase the hinterland region.
“This great country show has been highlighting our region and featuring our community successes throughout the years, whether that be through beef, dairy and poultry or cookery and needlework – everyone is celebrated,” Cr Johnston said.
“And this year’s event will be a cracker and we invite people from throughout the region to come along and enjoy the fun, hospitality and atmosphere.
“All your favorites will be there to keep families entertained – including a live performance from Bluey and Bingo, Pavilion exhibits, horse events, live music, sideshow alley, and whip cracking at the entertainment oval.
“It’s going to be an event not to be missed with a huge entertainment program including fireworks!’’
