Building young minds with books and music

Looking for a fun, free way to engage your little ones while supporting their development?

Sunshine Coast Libraries Rhymetime session at a local library, featuring the session leader and mums with their babies.

Sunshine Coast Libraries invite you and your little ones to explore the magic of language together at a Storytime or Rhymetime session.

Reading, singing and playing with your child helps build language skills and strengthens the bond between you and your little one. Whether you’re a parent, grandparent or caregiver, these sessions offer a wonderful opportunity to have fun and foster growth.

Storytime sessions

Sunshine Coast Council Strong Community Portfolio Councillor Taylor Bunnag said storytime was perfect for kids aged 2-5.

“The sessions combine stories, songs and activities that boost language, listening and motor skills,” Cr Bunnag said.

Sessions run weekly at each of Council’s library locations during the school term*.

Rhymetime sessions

Rhymetime is designed for babies aged 6 months to 2 years. The interactive sessions use nursery rhymes and songs that help caregivers and children bond while building pre-literacy skills.

Cr Bunnag said the sessions were more than just fun—they helped lay the foundation for lifelong learning.

“Did you know that during the first few years of life, your child’s brain is forming over a million new connections every second?

“Up to 90 per cent of brain development happens by age five, making these early years a critical window for learning.”
