The Library+ at Caloundra project, which is designed to create a vibrant community space for learning, creativity and connection, is forging ahead.

The innovative centrepiece, located on Omrah Avenue in Caloundra, is scheduled to open later this year.

Sunshine Coast Council Division 2 Councillor Terry Landsberg said the Library+ at Caloundra was a symbol of Council’s commitment to creating inclusive, sustainable and forward-thinking community spaces, that have integrated functions with Council’s customer contact and corporate offices.

“As we move closer to the opening, we look forward to delivering a place that will inspire and bring together people of all ages," Cr Landsberg said.

“In the past year, the construction team, Hutchinson Builders, has achieved remarkable progress.

“The main structure is now fully completed, creating a strong and modern building.

“The ground floor foyer has been opened up and prepared to accommodate the new tiered seating area that will bring people together.”

Cr Landsberg said new energy-efficient components, such as a new roof, glazing, insulation and solar panels, as well as essential water, cooling, heating and electrical systems, had been installed.

“The building’s exterior, including new windows and a covered entrance, is taking shape, while the interior is being finished with walls, soundproofing, painting and custom cabinetry to create a functional and appealingly space.

“In the coming months, the focus will be on completing the interior finishes and outdoor areas, which include a spacious covered area for events and an enhanced Bill Venardos Park with new landscaping.

“The final touches will include new floors and ceilings, as well as the installation of the tiered seating designed for comfort and community use.”

As construction wraps up, attention will shift to furnishing and equipping the library with the latest technology and modern features.

Once the building is ready, it will be tested and commissioned to ensure everything works seamlessly and is ready to welcome the public.

Visitors will benefit from an easy-to-use system for borrowing and returning books, state-of-the-art audiovisual and IT equipment, and a carefully curated book collection.

The Library+ at Caloundra exemplifies Sunshine Coast Council’s commitment to designing spaces that foster connection, learning and growth.

Its sustainable features and cutting-edge design will make it an iconic landmark for years to come.

Further details on how the community can access these fantastic spaces and this exciting new community facility will be available in the coming months.
