Keep an eye out for wildlife

Nature lovers will be in their element.

The area is home to an abundance of birdlife, including willy wagtails, finches, whipbirds, parrots, kingfishers, grey herons, ducks, pukekos and even pelicans. Colourful dragonflies can often be spotted darting through the wetlands, bringing flashes of blue and red to the landscape.

Visitors may also notice a striking burnt-out tree stump near the lake's edge, a unique reminder of a giant tree that once stood in its place.
