‘Tune into nature’ at immersive wetland experience
To commemorate the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem on July 26, Sunshine Coast Council and the University of the Sunshine Coast will partner to host ‘Tuning into Nature’.
A special event is set to take you on a journey through a wetland wonderland using sound, sight and environmental science.
To commemorate the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem on July 26, Sunshine Coast Council and the University of the Sunshine Coast will partner to host ‘Tuning into Nature’.
Attendees will discover what makes mangroves so special, how acoustic technologies are capturing their soundscapes and how citizen science is building our knowledge.
Sunshine Coast Council’s Environment and Liveability Portfolio Councillor Maria Suarez said the Sunshine Coast was fortunate to have such a significant wetland right on our doorstep.
“The Sunshine Coast is home to the Maroochy Wetlands Sanctuary – a large reserve of protected habitat which is increasingly rare and precious,” Cr Suarez said.
“Mangrove ecosystems are the main nurseries for the ocean’s fish. They sequester more carbon dioxide than terrestrial forests and without their incredible roots our coastline would fall apart.
‘‘Tuning into Nature’ is a unique immersive wetland experience offering an incredible opportunity to learn from an expert panel the crucial role wetlands play on our planet.
“You can also experience audio-visual recordings in The Cave.”
The Maroochy Wetlands Sanctuary is an ecological and aesthetic wonderland – and we want to take you there through science, sound and sight.
