Are you interested in wildlife conservation?

Sunshine Coast Council is calling for help to investigate nest boxes in Council reserves and parks.

Are you interested?

You will receive hands-on experience with wildlife monitoring techniques and data collection.

What is involved?

Where - At least 15 sites in council reserves and parks.

When - Survey events occur in October and November 2024.

How long - up to 2 hours.

Who - Maximum of 8 people per survey plus 1 Sunshine Coast staff member.

What - Collect data on nest boxes, record tree features and check for animal by using a camera on a pole.

Why nest boxes?

Nest boxes provide artificial habitat and supplement tree hollows, which take a long time to form naturally (generally more than 80 years).

Different designs of nest boxes targeting a wide range of species have been installed throughout council’s reserves and parks for the past 30 years.

However, there has been limited monitoring efforts and we are missing essential information.

  • Thursday, October 31, 2-3.30pm: Yinneburra Environment Reserve, Yaroomba
  • Saturday, November 2, 8-10am: Alex Forest Conservation Area, Alexandra Headland
