If you love the beach and have spare time this weekend, please head to Alexandra Headland or Picnic Point to help pick up polystyrene balls that have washed up.

Sunshine Coast Council staff will be on hand at several locations across the weekend, handing out hessian sacks and collecting the balls picked up by community members as part of the wider cleanup operation.

Clean up continues

The beach clean-up continues this weekend, after polystyrene balls washed up on Alexandra Headland, Maroochydore and Cotton Tree beaches, and along the Maroochy River last Friday (November 3, 2023).

Thank-you to all the community groups and volunteers for your invaluable help so far.

Council’s beach tractor will also be sweeping the beach across the weekend.

Correct disposal essential

Council will dispose of the polystyrene balls via a sealed bag so the loose balls don’t escape into the environment again.

The cause of the spill is still being investigated.
