IN PICTURES: Clean up for the Hatchlings 2023

More than 500 dedicated Sunshine Coast volunteers took on a hot and steamy morning to clean up our beaches on Saturday February 4, 2023, ready for our hatchlings to make their way to the ocean as part of the annual Clean up for the Hatchlings event.

Across 18 sites, 562 children and adults picked up 280kg of rubbish - the largest item recorded was a stand up paddle board!

We are a turtle friendly community here on the Sunshine Coast and Council - along with our event partners TurtleCare Sunshine Coast, Reef Check Australia, Unitywater, SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast Aquarium and Noosa Council - would like to send a big thank you to the volunteers on the day for helping to give our little hatchlings the best start in life.

Sunshine Coast Council acknowledges the Sunshine Coast Country, home of the Kabi Kabi peoples and the Jinibara peoples, the Traditional Custodians, whose lands and waters we all now share. We wish to pay respect to their Elders – past, present and emerging, and acknowledge the important role First Nations people continue to play within the Sunshine Coast community.
