Help shape the future of the Sunshine Coast
A new proposed planning scheme for the Sunshine Coast has been carefully drafted – and your chance to help shape the future of our region is just around the corner.

Sunshine Coast Council is preparing to release the proposed planning scheme for community feedback.
It will set out proposed zones, building heights, design standards and much more. It will ensure land is set aside for homes, green spaces, community facilities and business, while planning for a climate-resilient future.
For the first time, the planning scheme will be web-based, making it much easier to use and navigate. You’ll be able to explore the interactive maps and search your address to find out what the proposed planning scheme means for you and your local area.
Information sessions will be held across the region, providing opportunities to meet Council planners and other specialists, ask questions, and learn what the proposed planning scheme means for you and your community.
Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli said she was keen to share the details of the proposed planning scheme and hear directly from the community.
“There were clear messages to come from the preliminary consultation. Protecting our natural environment, maintaining our unique character and addressing public transport, traffic and parking, improving development outcomes and housing affordability are all important,” Mayor Natoli said.
“We are on the same page and are confident the proposed planning scheme reflects these priorities.
“We know our community is eager to see what’s included. Soon you’ll be able to explore what’s planned for your local area and our region.
Your voice matters
Mayor Natoli encouraged everyone to take the time to get to know the detail of the proposed planning scheme.
“Your feedback is important. Whether you support the plan or have some concerns, we want to hear from you,” Mayor Natoli said.
“Community feedback is a vital part of this process, and every voice counts.
“Preparing a new planning scheme is a critical part of shaping where we live, learn, work and play.
“It will help guide how the region evolves over the coming decades – making sure our community is connected, liveable and thriving – both now and into the future.”
Get ready to explore the detail and sign-up for project updates
The Sunshine Coast community is encouraged to sign-up to be notified when consultation opens and to explore the resources currently online.
“Right now, before consultation opens, is a great time to get familiar with what a planning scheme is – so you’re ready to have your say when the time comes.
“Take a moment to visit our website and browse the information that’s already there.
“Once consultation begins, you’ll have access to even more information and Council will offer many ways to learn about the proposed planning scheme, how to have your say and to ask questions – whether online or in person at information sessions across the region.
“We’re making it easy for everyone to find the information they need and in a way that suits them.
“There will be more than two months to explore what’s planned and provide feedback.
“We want everyone to feel confident engaging with the process.”
