WATCH NOW: New pedestrian bridge lifted into place
A pedestrian bridge has been lifted into place in Eumundi, in the Sunshine Coast hinterland for safer and more convenient pedestrian crossings.
A new pedestrian bridge was craned into place, spanning the North Maroochy River near Seib Road in Eumundi.
The bridge runs adjacent to Eumundi—Noosa Road, and when complete will significantly improve safety for pedestrians crossing the river. Currently pedestrians share the road bridge, with less than a metre of shoulder available for pedestrians and riders to use.
The installation was carried out on Tuesday May 6, during a road closure to ensure minimal disruption to road users and the community.
The structure was assembled off site before being transported to site and craned into position. The entire operation took about seven hours to complete, with the 30.2-tonne bridge lifted into place as one single component.

The project to construct the pedestrian bridge and associated pathway and boardwalk has been in construction since January 2025 and is anticipated to be completed by mid-2025.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads partnered with Sunshine Coast Council to develop the design for the bridge, boardwalk and pathway, which is something local residents in Eumundi have been calling for.
As the construction contractor, Council will lead the project through the construction phase, and the new infrastructure will form part of Council’s local road and pedestrian network.
This $6 million project is funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments under a 50:50 split as part of the Road Safety Program.
