Sunshine Coast Council has unveiled a remarkable new chapter in Landsborough’s story with the launch of the Landsborough Heritage Walk – a self-guided trail that brings local history to life through storytelling, public art and digital experiences.

The Landsborough Heritage Walk lays at the heart of the revitalised Cribb Street streetscape, delivered in partnership with the Landsborough community last year.

The streetscape project honours Landsborough’s layered history, from its significance as a First Nations meeting place to its role in the birth of local government on the Sunshine Coast and its legacy as a thriving timber town.

Step into the past (no passport needed)

Sunshine Coast Council Division 1 Councillor Jenny Broderick said the walk offered a meaningful way to connect with the past.

“It’s more than just a walk – it’s a way to hear the stories that shaped this town,” Cr Broderick said.

“Scan QR codes along the trail to unlock audio stories and reflections, from traditional cultural practices to tales of the Landsborough Pub being rolled into place by bullock wagon.

“It’s a tribute to the people who shaped this town and a gift to future generations.”

The walk features interpretive signage, custom-designed street furniture and art elements that reflect the area’s heritage.

Visitors can explore at their own pace and discover personal recollections shared by locals.

A community-led vision

Local resident Diana Michael, who supported the project alongside Council and the Landsborough Museum, said history connects the past to the present and then to the future.

“We can learn so much through knowing the history of a place and by listening to people's stories,” Ms Michael said.

“This deepens our connection to place and also gives visitors a reason to come, see and learn.

“Landsborough is the Sunshine Coast's Historic Town and it’s why I became involved in the 2019 Landsborough Placemaking, working on the Cribb Street Heritage Walk and interviewing long term locals for the Stories of Landsborough.

“I gained so much personal insight, appreciation and enjoyment from the experience and I’m so happy to see this all come to fruition.”

“They help connect us to our roots and remind us of the strength and character of our community.”
