From affordable wellbeing activities and free library events to accessible door-to-door transport services, Sunshine Coast Council is helping older residents stay healthy, connected and independent during Seniors Month and beyond.

October is Seniors Month, celebrating the valuable contribution older Queenslanders make to our communities while encouraging social connection, wellbeing and lifelong learning.

Residents can explore a range of programs and services, including Healthy Sunshine Coast, Sunshine Coast Libraries activities and Council Link transport services.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli said Seniors Month is an opportunity to celebrate older residents and encourage everyone to take part in activities that support healthy ageing.

"Older residents play an important role in shaping our community and helping make the Sunshine Coast such a vibrant and connected place to live," Mayor Natoli said.

"Whether it's improving overall wellbeing, learning a new skill, meeting new people or accessing local services, Council offers a range of initiatives that support healthy ageing and community connection.

"These all help to make the Sunshine Coast an even better play to live – especially for seniors.”

Council's Healthy Sunshine Coast program offers more than 90 low-cost activities across the region, including chair yoga, Pilates, meditation, Qi gong and strength and stability classes for older people. Activities are available for $10, or $5 for Health Care and Pensioner Card holders. Seniors Month will also feature falls prevention workshops in Landsborough, Coolum and Caloundra for only $5.

Sunshine Coast Libraries will host a variety of free activities, including a screening of Up, preservation workshops, a wills and estates information session and a What a Disaster! game night, alongside ongoing technology help, family history resources and Home Library services.

Council Link provides affordable door-to-door transport for eligible residents, helping people access shopping centres, services and community facilities for just $2 each way.
