Share your feedback on John Hotton Park’s future

Sunshine Coast Council has developed a draft landscape plan for John Hotton Park and is asking for community feedback.

John Hotton Park sign

We know our community loves their local parks and John Hotton Park in Warana is no exception.

In March and April 2023, Sunshine Coast Council invited you to share your thoughts on ways to improve this popular local park that provides access to Warana Beach.

We conducted an online survey on Council’s Have Your Say website.

The survey aimed to understand what our community likes and dislikes about the park and what improvements you would like to see.

The survey received 109 responses and we have now developed a draft landscape plan for John Hotton Park, based on this feedback.

You can view the draft landscape plan on the Have Your Say website here.

Park Improvements

The draft landscape plan proposes various potential improvements to the park. Key features include:

  • a central meeting area with a new shelter (with lighting), relocated barbecue and long table
  • playground improvements featuring natural play spaces, a group swing, sandstone seating and shade sails
  • an open grassed area for informal recreation
  • additional native tree planting in the park for shade and screening neighbouring properties
  • a new entry path for disability access compliance and improved circulation
  • an additional picnic table in the shaded area.

Beach shelter

We have prepared three options for a future beach shelter.

Each option features a roofed shelter, furniture, bicycle parking and is wheelchair accessible.

You can have your say on the shelter location by completing the online survey.

Have your say

We encourage you to visit Council’s Have Your Say website to review the draft landscape plan.

Please provide your feedback by completing the online survey by 12 August 2024.

Where to from here?

Your input will help finalise the landscape plan and guide project staging.

We will evaluate and use community feedback to shape the final design, project staging and potential funding opportunities.

Note that future park improvements are not currently scheduled or funded for construction.

We will use the landscape plan as a tool to bid for funding for future implementation.

Thank you for your interest and participation in helping to shape the future of John Hotton Park.
