Readers tuck into ‘literary treats for the mind’

Book lovers in one of the Sunshine Coast’s fastest-growing communities are set to enjoy a first for the region.

It’s a Book Locker, also known as an express library, that looks like a vending machine but one that contains food for the mind, not the body.

Residents at Baringa, in Aura, will be the first to enjoy the literary treats, from the Book Locker just installed inside the Baringa Community Centre, 20 Edwards Terrace. It will be accessible Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm.

Residents can use their library membership card to borrow from a selection of up to 160 books. The locker includes adult fiction and non-fiction, young adult fiction, junior fiction and non-fiction, toddler board books and picture books.

Division 1 Councillor Jenny Broderick said the new initiative offered convenience and greater access to books.

“This new facility will enable the Aura community to easily access a library service,” Councillor Broderick said.

“It is simple to use, conveniently located and will encourage reading within this growing community.

“This new service helps us connect and engage with our community to build a better future for everyone.”

Use of the Book Locker is free and available to anyone with a full library membership. To become a library member, visit one of our eight library locations and speak to a staff member.
