Pawfect way to show your pet love
Easy steps you can take to help reunite with lost pets.

Valentine’s Day isn’t just for romance. Show your best fur-ends how much you care by ensuring their microchip and registration details are up to date.
This, along with wearing their Council registration tag, helps Sunshine Coast Council reunite much-loved missing pets with their families.
Council encourages pet owners to permanently attach Council-issued registration tags to their furry friend’s collar. If a lost pet has their blue Council tag on and their microchip details are up to date, it greatly assists with a quick return to their loved ones.
That way, a simple phone call identifies them without the need to transport them further away from their home.
Keep your details current
Council pet registration provides peace of mind for cat and dog owners. All cats and dogs must be registered every year and wear their Council-issued registration tag.
But if they have lost their Council tag and are microchipped they can still be reunited with you.
If your pet does go missing, Council recommends you contact your microchip registry to advise your pet has been lost and check your details are current.
To get microchip information, you can contact your vet or check your registration certificate. Your breeder information should also provide a copy of the microchip.
It is very important to keep your contact details up to date with Council and the microchip registry database so if you move house or change your phone number you will still be contactable. This includes updating your mobile number or email, not just your residential address.
HomeSafeID microchip registry closing
Microchip registry, HomeSafeID will cease operation. If your pet’s microchip has been registered with HomeSafeID, your details will no longer be viewable when their microchip is scanned.
If your pet goes missing or is found, the vet or animal shelter will no longer be able to view your pet’s ownership details connected to their microchip. To find out where your pet’s microchip details are stored:
- Visit petaddress.com.au
- Log in and confirm the details are correct
- Apply to register your pet with one of the current Microchip Registry services.

Moved home recently?
If you have moved to a new house, your pet has been recently desexed or microchipped or your pet has sadly passed away, it’s important to ensure Council has the correct registration details.
You can update or cancel your pet’s registration details via the simple online form on Council’s website.
You can also register with MyCouncil to update any of the following animal details:
- pensioner details
- desexing
- microchipping
- status of your animal
