A new eight-storey public car park, offering almost 300 parking spaces, is set to transform commuting in this bustling Sunshine Coast CBD.

Nestled conveniently near shops, cafes and restaurants the new PARKnGO Lightning Lane car park redefines the parking experience.

Adjacent to Foundation Place in the Maroochydore City Centre, the facility offers seamless and undercover parking to the community.

Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson welcomed the modern facility which was funded by Council, delivered by Walker Corporation and constructed by Hutchinson Builders.

Mayor Jamieson said it would bring substantial benefits to the local community, businesses and visitors.

“PARKnGO Lightning Lane is your new facility for stress-free parking in the commercial heart of the city centre.

“It prioritises inclusivity with six accessible parking spaces catering for varying mobility needs.

“The new PARKnGO Lightning Lane also shows our commitment to eco-friendly solutions with four EV charging stations supported by an 80Kwh rooftop solar system supplying green energy.

“It will delight motorcycle and bicycle enthusiasts with 39 motorcycle spaces included and generous end-of-trip facilities available.

“Located on Lightning Lane with a separate safe entrance, these facilities cater for 28 bikes and offer separate male and female amenities and an accessible bathroom equipped with showers and toilets. Whilst there is a modest fee for the lockers, use of the showers is free.

“In addition to increased parking, the ground floor of the building includes space for commercial tenancies which Council hopes to award in the New Year.”

Walker Corporation Group Executive Development Peter Saba with Mayor Mark Jamieson to officially open PARKnGO Lightning Lane.

Walker Group Executive, Development Peter Saba said the multi-level carpark was a fantastic addition to the city centre delivering convenient car parking and high-quality end-of-trip facilities.

“As the new Maroochydore City Centre continues its rapid transformation, this is an exciting milestone for current and future CBD workers, including those who will occupy our premium office tower at 50 First Avenue by Walker.”

PARKnGO Lightning Lane ambassadors, easily identified in blue PARKnGO shirts, will be onsite starting today (December 13), assisting car park users.

Sunshine Coast Council CEO Emma Thomas said people would be able to enjoy one-hour of free parking when they parked at the car park and an introductory rate of $6 per day.

Ms Thomas said that from April 1, 2024, the first hour of parking would remain free and the second and following hours would be charged at $2.50 per hour, capped at a maximum daily rate of $12.50.

“The new parking fees will allow for a user pays schedule, where people will pay for the time they use in a similar approach to our PARKnGO Mooloolaba Central car park.

“We understand that providing parking is a service to our community that needs to be balanced with repaying the construction loan and covering the operating costs for the multi-deck car park.

“The user pays approach introduces a pay-as-you-go fee structure that provides a fairer and more sustainable funding model to repay debt and service operating costs for the broader Sunshine Coast ratepayers.”
