It’s time to Create your Caloundra
Can you envision strolling through Caloundra’s new town-square designed to meet the ‘City of beaches’ lifestyle with plenty of green space entwined with shady trees, picnic areas and by twilight it turns into a creative oasis?
A vibrant new Community and Creative Hub has been designed for Caloundra – a place where arts, community and creativity can come alive.
Division 2 Councillor Terry Landsberg said feedback received in November last year has informed the draft concept design for the new Hub.
“The proposed hub will create a community precinct linking The Events Centre, new District Library, Caloundra Regional Gallery and a new town square through to Bulcock Beach,” Cr Landsberg said.
“The community told council through a series of community pop-up sessions, online survey and engagement forums to keep it green and unique, change the way we move, improve how we navigate, offer more events and cater for creative interests.
“It’s time to ask, ‘Have we got it right? Have we heard the communities’ values and visions, is the Draft Concept Design what you pictured?’”
The Draft Concept Design creates green public spaces within Felicity Park and provides pedestrian friendly streetscapes on Omrah and Otranto avenues, connecting the new town square to the main street.
It also captures active street frontages including shops, cafes and businesses which will make the hub diverse and vibrant.

Community Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said the Sunshine Coast was one of the fastest growing areas in Australia.
“The major refurbishment of The Events Centre in 2019 was an important first step in the vision for the Community and Creative Hub and council has recently endorsed the detailed design for the new Caloundra District Library,” Cr Baberowski said.
“Caloundra Administration Building opposite the towering trees of Bill Venardos Park will be repurposed into a new green-star, district level library to cater for the growing community and is a step in the right direction to contribute to the ongoing vitality of Caloundra Centre and its community.
“Projects like this hub will continue to attract residents and visitors to the area, thanks to its natural beauty and the relaxed, community-oriented lifestyle for years to come.”
The Community and Creative Hub along with the new District Library are part of the Caloundra Centre Activation Project, which seeks to revitalise and activate the Caloundra Centre area as envisaged by the Caloundra Centre Master Plan, adopted in March 2017.
You can view the design at a series of pop-up sessions and speak with a council officer in person or view the information and provide your feedback online before 22 June. Visit council’s Have Your Say website for details and to take the survey.
