Looking for a Sunshine Coast adventure that feels worlds away from the crowds – but is only 15 minutes north of Coolum? The Lake Weyba Foreshore Trail is your next must‑do walk.
Recently completed, this 6.6‑kilometre lakeside trail winds its way along the edge of Lake Weyba, sometimes beside the water and sometimes straight through it. It’s an immersive, nature‑filled experience that rewards curious explorers, adventurous families and anyone craving something a little different.
Tucked between Noosa and Coolum, Lake Weyba feels like a secret waiting to be discovered.

Where the trail takes you
Starting from the foreshore at Lake Weyba Drive, the trail meanders gently along the lake’s edge, weaving through wetlands, mangroves and coastal bushland. Don’t be surprised if your feet get wet – shallow, calm water crossings are all part of the fun and add to the sense of adventure.
One of the most memorable moments comes at Horsman Creek, where a 24‑metre suspension bridge swings lightly over the water below. It’s the perfect place to stop, take a breath and soak up views across the creek and Lake Weyba.
This recently completed bridge marked the final piece of the Lake Weyba Foreshore Nature Trail, officially linking Lake Weyba to Peregian and opening up a new way to explore the area. Along the journey, you’ll also find footbridge crossings, improved trail surfaces and wayfinding signage – subtle touches that make exploring easier while keeping the natural feel intact.
And the best part? Despite the peaceful setting, you’re only kilometres away from the buzz of Noosa.

A place worth exploring slowly
Lake Weyba isn’t just beautiful – it’s nationally recognised as an important wetland. The calm, shallow tidal lake is a favourite spot for picnics, hiking and launching small watercraft, from kayaks and canoes to paddleboards and kiteboards.
Lake Weyba is part of the Noosa Biosphere Reserve, and covers approximately 150,000 hectares of freshwater, estuarine and terrestrial environments. The lake has several tributaries including Weyba, Keyser, Eenie Hosman and Murdering Creeks.
Keep an eye out as you walk. The lake’s mangroves, seagrass beds and rocky edges are teeming with life, providing important habitats for marine species such as rays, sharks, crustaceans and fish. The surrounding landscape also supports rare and threatened plant species, making every step feel like a walk through something truly special.

Is this trail for you?
If you like your walks with a little adventure, the Lake Weyba Foreshore Trail delivers.
The trail is suitable for walkers, horse riders and experienced mountain bikers, and some sections are rated Grade 4, meaning conditions can be uneven, muddy after rain and occasionally tricky to follow. Tides and seasonal inundation play a role here, so being prepared – and embracing the unpredictability – is part of the experience.
Bridges are pedestrian use only and dogs are welcome on leash, making it a great option for four‑legged companions who love a lakeside wander.
Make a day of it
Once you’ve finished the foreshore walk, there’s plenty more to discover. Other trails lead away from the lake through coastal bushland and saltpans, or you can simply spread out a picnic, enjoy the views and spend some quiet time by the water. With suitable equipment, launching a kayak or paddleboard is a great way to see Lake Weyba from a different perspective.
