Funds to boost wellbeing, lifestyle in Division 4
Enhancing community infrastructure, connectivity and lifestyle.
Walkers, riders, runners and those who love our natural assets will benefit from a range of upgrades to community infrastructure in Division 4 – a popular part of the Sunshine Coast.
Sunshine Coast Council has announced a series of exciting projects in its 2024-25 Budget handed down on June 20.
It aims to enhance community infrastructure, connectivity and lifestyle in Division 4, which includes Alexandra Headland, Buddina, Maroochydore, Minyama, Mooloolaba, Parrearra, and Warana.
Division 4 Councillor Joe Natoli said Council's Budget would help deliver a diverse range of initiatives designed to support the community.
“A key project which will benefit our community is the $2.1 million completion of the Coastal Pathway Beach Access 233 to 229 in Warana, which will include a 1km, 3-metre wide, concrete coastal pathway with accessibility access, beach showers, new seats and bike racks,” Cr Natoli said.
“It’s also encouraging to see the existing pathway at the Alex Bluff foreshore receiving design upgrades to meet Coastal Pathway standards.”
Other major projects include the ongoing transformation of the Mooloolaba foreshore and substantial investments in local parks.
The Mooloolaba Foreshore Stage 2 Central Meeting Place is set to receive the first instalment of $3.7 million towards this significant revitalisation investment project to begin creating an enhanced community space.
The project includes more beachfront parkland, new accessible pathways and viewing deck, improved access to the beach and foreshore, new modern public amenities.
The project has been granted $8 million in Australian Government funding for coastal protection works to construct a terraced seawall over the next three years.
Upgrades are planned for Coopers Lookout, La Balsa Park, and Point Cartwright Reserve in Buddina, as well as Mooloolah Drive Park and Chelsea Park in Minyama.
Enhancements to beach showers, furniture, the La Balsa boat ramp and play equipment, will also greatly benefit the Sunshine Coast community.
The extensive $1.83 million upgrades at Cotton Tree Holiday Park will continue with new barbecue shelters, tables and seating, fencing, improved amenity, and powered tent sites.
Plans are underway to establish safe active transport links in Buddina, Alexandra Headland, Mooloolaba, and Maroochydore, as well as pedestrian and cycling facilities at the Mooloolaba State School precinct.
Safety improvements, such as new crossings at Sixth and Memorial avenues, Maroochydore, are also on the agenda.
Further upgrades include stormwater improvements in Warana, Alexandra Headland, Maroochydore, and Buddina, a pontoon for disability access to kayaks in Mooloolaba and an improved Coast Guard Public Amenities in Mooloolaba.
