Beautifying Maleny, maintaining the green heart at Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve and upgrading the Maroochy Bushland Botanic Garden are among the many benefits for Division 5 in Sunshine Coast Council’s 2024–25 Budget.

Council’s Budget includes investments in a diverse and valuable mix of projects to support the community.

Sunshine Coast Council Division 5 Councillor Winston Johnston said there was a range of important projects for the community to look forward to thanks to this financial plan.

“Supporting our community is at the heart of every decision we have made,” Cr Johnston said.

“This Budget will deliver a wide variety of important works across our hinterland region.

“One of my top priorities is to keep our hinterland residents and farmers connected on our country roads, as well as make them accessible for the many visitors we have coming to our beautiful region.

“Increasing investment in sealing gravel roads has been high on my agenda and I’m pleased to advise that this year we are allocating $8 million across the region, up from $5 million.

“Placemaking projects are an important part of enhancing those aspects our residents already love about their picturesque townships.

“Substantial investments will be made this year to finish key Division 5 projects, including an allocation of $2.9 million for the Maple Street streetscape at Maleny.

“Approved works also include footpath construction in Western Ave, Montville, and North Maleny Road, as well as disability access on Margaret Street, Palmwoods.

“There’s also $960,000 to complete Maleny’s Mountain View lookout parking area.

“This Budget will also deliver upgrades to West Woombye’s Carruthers and Menary Bridges, Maleny’s Tallowwood Street path and Bald Knob stormwater drainage.’’

Division 5 building and facility projects include Sippy Creek Animal Pound air conditioning, Lemon Park amenity renewal and competition-standard lighting for the Maleny Showgrounds sports field and main arena.

“To protect Division 5’s precious, environmental assets, as well as enhance visitor experience, $300,000 has been allocated to the Sunshine Coast Ecological Park, $370,000 to the Butterfly Walk and $100,000 to the Gardners Falls landscaping plan,” Cr Johnston said.

“Another $775,000 will be invested into developing an arrival hub at the Maroochy Bushland Botanic Garden in Tanawha.

“The Budget also allows for phase 2 of the Maleny Skate Park upgrade, an investment of $550,000.”

Sunshine Coast Council’s 2024-25 Budget was adopted on June 20.
