Have you ever received a postcard from a special person or place you’ll forever treasure?

Sunshine Coast Council’s Heritage Library are inviting you to step back in time and explore their new display featuring postcards created by our community during a retro postcards workshop.

Come along to admire their creations at the Nambour Library during October and celebrate the personal touch, artistic value and nostalgia of postcards.

  • The origin of the postcard is linked to the development of postal services in the 1800s.
  • The most expensive postcard auctioned fetched over $60,000 and was purchased by a collector in Latvia.
  • Postcards were most popular in Europe in the 1880s and were of famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower.
  • By the 1900s postcards were like the text messages of today with billions sent every year.
  • Some large cities had up to 12 deliveries and pickups to keep up with the volume of postcards being sent
