‘Everyone belongs’: how you can celebrate Harmony Week

From exotic food experiences and stories to sports, art and music … get ready for a feast of cultural diversity on the Sunshine Coast!

Harmony Week 2026

Everyone is invited to help celebrate Harmony Week 2026, between March 16 and 22.

It will be part of a national initiative that recognises Australia’s cultural diversity and promotes inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all.

This year’s theme, “Everyone Belongs on the Sunshine Coast,” will highlight our region’s rich cultural diversity and encourages residents to connect, share stories and celebrate the cultural expressions and traditions that make our community unique.

Strong Community Portfolio Councillor Taylor Bunnag said Harmony Week was a meaningful opportunity to showcase the Sunshine Coast as a welcoming and inclusive region.

“Harmony Week is a celebration of who we are as a community,” Cr Bunnag said.

“I encourage everyone to get involved, attend an event or simply take a moment to connect with someone from a different background.

So, what can you enjoy?

A variety of community-led activities will take place across the region, including cultural workshops, storytelling, art, food experiences, music and dance, sports events, conversation circles and more.

Some of the activities on offer include:

  • Sahaja Yoga Meditation
  • Many Cultures, One Table
  • Kalari Sword Yoga
  • Drum Orchestra and Dance: A Taste of Kerala
  • MultiCulti Soccer Cup

…with many more events happening across the region.

Council supports these initiatives as part of the regional Harmony Week program and encourages participation that builds a welcoming region through , connection and shared learning.

Harmony Week also includes the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21, reinforcing the importance of standing together against racism and fostering a fair, inclusive community.

Council is encouraging residents to take part in the Shine a Light on Racism campaign, a community-led initiative encouraging everyday actions that make our region more welcoming and inclusive. Learn more at www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/shinealightonracism.

Sunshine Coast Libraries will support the Week with conversation circles, workshops and multicultural resources to help residents strengthen connections and celebrate diversity.

Council encourages everyone to take part in an event, start a conversation and learn something new about our culturally diverse communities.
