Eumundi Pedestrian bridge officially opens

A stunning new pedestrian bridge is now complete in Eumundi, featuring nearly 300 metres of scenic pathway and boardwalk — inviting locals and visitors to explore the area like never before.

Pedestrians, including school children, will now have safer journeys thanks to a new bridge in Eumundi that spans the North Maroochy River near Seib Road.

The project was funded by the Department for Transport and Main Roads (TMR) and the Australian Government in a 50-50 split under the Road Safety Program.

TMR collaborated with Sunshine Coast Council in designing the project, with Council leading construction.

The overall project included 300 metres of new pathway and boardwalk, connecting the new bridge into the existing footpath network.

Sunshine Coast Council Division 10 Councilor David Law said he was pleased to see three levels of government working collaboratively to build the new link for the community.

“Locals told me how they had been lobbying for safer pedestrian access,” Cr Law said.

“This bridge isn’t just about infrastructure, it’s about people. It’s about making sure our kids can walk to school safely, that families can enjoy a stroll into town, and that everyone in Eumundi feels more connected.

“Projects like this show what’s possible when we listen to our community and work together to deliver real outcomes.

“I’m proud to see this long-awaited bridge become a reality, and I know it will make a meaningful difference to the daily lives of so many residents.”

Member for Ninderry Dan Purdie MP said the Eumundi community had been calling for a pedestrian solution in the area for a very long time.

“Since being elected seven years ago, I have stood side by side with the community to fight for funding to build a dedicated pedestrian bridge," Mr Purdie said.

“This new pedestrian bridge is a game-changer for the local community, making it easier and safer for residents to walk or cycle into town rather than drive, reducing the number of cars on the road.

“The Crisafulli Government is committed to improving road safety for everyone, including pedestrians - and today marks a special milestone in the delivery of this commitment to the community of Eumundi.

“It’s a big win for accessibility and the overall livability of the area—especially for families and school kids who now have a much safer route.

“The Eumundi Markets is a popular destination for tourists, and it is important to ensure the safety of visitors to our town. This much-needed infrastructure improves connectivity to the markets, improving visitor experience and ensuring their safety."

The highlight of the construction phase was when the 30.2-tonne bridge was lifted into place as a single component, requiring the overnight closure of the Eumundi—Noosa Road.

The large single span was designed with the intent of minimising impacts to the waterway during flood events. The absence of pylons reduces the interruption to the flow of water and therefore minimises the impact on upstream river levels.

The bridge was painted off site with a protective paint system that is designed to last many years before any maintenance painting of the structure is required.

In addition to the pedestrian infrastructure, the project included safety improvements, including asphalt resurfacing and an improved right-turn facility for eastbound traffic turning into Seib Road.
