Discover the magic of storytelling with Story Seats

Imagine relaxing in one of the Sunshine Coast’s most beautiful parks on a seat that tells a story!

A Story Seat located Shelly Beach Park in Shelly Beach.

Ten innovative Story Seats located in Sunshine Coast parks have fabulous illustrations incorporated into their designs.

What are Story Seats?

These eye-catching seats double as works of art, featuring vibrant illustrations from children’s book authors to encourage a love of reading. Each seat is more than a place to rest—it’s an invitation to talk, read, sing and play with your child, turning everyday moments into joyful literacy adventures.

Make the most of your visit

  • Talk: Spark conversations about the stories and characters on the seats. Ask your child what they think is happening in the illustrations, what the characters names are and what stories they would create using the characters or even make up your own stories together. Talk about everything and anything!
  • Read: Bring your favourite book along or let the seat’s illustrations inspire a storytelling with your child. Encourage them to find colours, count objects or imagine what comes next in the story.
  • Sing: Create silly songs using the images on the graphics. Sing nursery rhymes or songs your child loves. Singing is one of the best ways for developing sound awareness skills in your little one that will ultimately help them be successful in learning to read.
  • Play: As a parent/caregiver you are your child’s first and most important play mate. Use the Story Seat as a centrepiece for imaginative games. Run, jump and let your child lead the way in creating fun activities inspired by the artwork.
