Discover Emu Mountain: big views from a small peak

Looking for an easy outdoor adventure with rewarding views? Emu Mountain – in Noosa National Park, located between Peregian Beach and Coolum – offers a short walk with spectacular coastal and hinterland scenery, making it a great option for families, visitors and locals alike.

Rising just 71 metres above sea level, Emu Mountain may be modest in height, but the panoramic views from the summit are anything but. Located south of Peregian Beach and close to Coolum, this accessible walk showcases some of the Sunshine Coast’s most stunning natural landscapes.

A walk for everyone

The Emu Mountain Summit Walk is an easy 1.4-kilometre return journey, suitable for most fitness levels. It’s a popular choice for families with children, casual walkers, trail runners and mountain bike riders looking to explore the area's network of trails.

The relatively gentle climb makes it a great alternative to the more challenging Mount Coolum Summit Track, while still providing impressive views across the coastline and hinterland.

Summit views worth the climb

The summit of Emu Mountain offers uninterrupted 360-degree views stretching from the coast to the hinterland. With limited tree coverage at the top, visitors can enjoy expansive vistas in every direction, making it a perfect spot to pause, take photos and appreciate the surrounding landscape.

Along the way, walkers can discover distinctive rock outcrops, native vegetation and coastal heathland ecosystems. Spring visitors may also be treated to colourful wildflower displays.

A place with history

The name “Peregian” is derived from a local Aboriginal word meaning “emu”. While emus no longer roam the mountain's slopes, the area’s history is reflected in the name and remains an important connection to the region's cultural heritage.

Extend your adventure

Visitors looking for a longer outing can continue exploring the surrounding trail network. One option is to descend via the Hakea Walk, continue south towards Tritonia Drive and connect with shared pathways along David Low Way before returning via Havana Road East.

Getting there

Emu Mountain can be accessed from several points off David Low Way, including:

  • Havana Road East
  • Kanooka Avenue
  • Tritonia Drive

For the quickest route to the summit, start at the end of Havana Road East and follow either the Emu Mountain Summit Walk or the Hakea Walk with the Summit Link Trail.

Plan your visit

With breathtaking views, accessible trails and beautiful natural surroundings, Emu Mountain is a reminder that some of the Sunshine Coast’s best adventures are right on our doorstep.

Before heading out, check trail information and plan your route.
