Tucked away within Conondale National Park, the rewarding Booloumba Creek & Strangler Cairn Walk forms part of the remote Conondale Range Great Walk, offering a unique combination of art, history and nature.

Following a peaceful forest trail through beautiful bushland, walkers are rewarded with one of the region's most unusual attractions: a striking sculpture crafted from hand-cut stone and incorporating a specimen of a native strangler fig.

The artwork sparked plenty of discussion when it was first installed and continues to intrigue visitors today, making this trail a memorable adventure for art lovers, nature enthusiasts and families with older children.

Along the way, visitors can enjoy towering trees, native birdlife, rocky creek crossings and the tranquil sounds of flowing water. The surrounding landscape showcases the rugged beauty of the Conondale Range and provides countless opportunities to pause and take in the scenery.

Suitability

This 5.8km return walk is suitable for walkers with some experience. Access can be challenging, particularly after wet weather, and a high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended. Many walkers choose to park before the first creek crossing and walk into the day-use area.

How to get there

Take the Kenilworth exit from the Bruce Highway and follow Eumundi-Kenilworth Road through Kenilworth towards Maleny. Turn right into Booloumba Creek Road, about 7.5km past Kenilworth, and continue for 7km to the Booloumba Creek day-use area.

Please note that Queensland Parks advises all park roads are gravel and currently suitable for high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles only. Booloumba Creek Road includes three creek crossings.

Make a day of it

For those keen to extend their adventure, there are plenty of nearby walking opportunities ranging from short rainforest strolls to more challenging full-day hikes.

After exploring the trail, nearby country towns offer the perfect place to stop for lunch, a sweet treat or a well-earned coffee. Visitors can also enjoy a short rainforest walk through towering fig trees at a nearby creekside reserve.

This unique experience is just one of more than 250 walking, running, paddling, cycling, mountain biking and horse-riding experiences featured on Adventure Sunshine Coast.
