An overwhelming response supporting a draft concept plan for Nambour’s town centre will help guide the region’s historic hub into the future.

Thank you to everyone who had their say on the Nambour (Namba) Place Plan community engagement between August 28 and September 24, 2023.

Sunshine Coast Council has been working on the Nambour (Namba) Place Plan that aims to develop a strategy for the town centre.

The plan will fuse Nambour’s growing reputation as a creative and welcoming place through greener streets, wider pathways, art installations and open spaces.

The community’s response showed 69 per cent support for the overall plan and a further 25 per cent who would support it with some changes. About 6 per cent of respondents were not in support.

What the community had to say

You can view the breakdown of results in the detailed Engagement Report, which can also be found on Council’s website

The plan suggests five key areas for improvement aiming to improve and beautify the centre’s street areas to support a range of future events, playful experiences and cultural connections.

There was also clear community support to prioritise the Currie Street focus area as we move forward.

Council received 446 survey responses after undertaking numerous conversations with the community at five drop-in sessions, more than 30 stakeholder meetings and 20 community activation sessions.

This is what we heard our community supported for the overall town centre:

What happens next

The project team will continue to review feedback which will be used to further refine the design. We look forward to releasing the final plan later this year.

This placemaking strategy is part of the Nambour Centre Activation Project – focussed on invigorating this major hinterland centre over the next 10 years.
