As part of NAIDOC Week, Sunshine Coast residents came together for the annual NAIDOC Flag Raising Ceremony at Nambour Library Forecourt on 7 July.

This free event featured moving speeches, cultural performances and hands-on activities celebrating this year’s NAIDOC theme, ‘50 Years of Deadly’.

The ceremony concluded with the official raising of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags.

Sunshine Coast Council was proud to partner with First Nations businesses, Elders and community organisations to deliver this meaningful community gathering.

Sunshine Coast Council acknowledges the Sunshine Coast Country, home of the Kabi Kabi peoples and the Jinibara peoples, the Traditional Custodians, whose lands and waters we all now share. We wish to pay respect to their Elders – past, present and emerging, and acknowledge the important role First Nations people continue to play within the Sunshine Coast community.
