Citizens’ Panel voices help shape big-picture decisions
These are the topics the Sunshine Coast Citizens' Panel has considered, providing a wide range of ideas, priorities and experiences to complement other community consultation feedback.
The first Sunshine Coast Citizens’ Panel is helping to shape our region’s future, demonstrating how a wide range of local voices contribute to stronger decisions.
Over the past year, members of the Citizens' Panel have been sharing their ideas, experiences and priorities to help inform Council decisions and future planning.
The panel was established to hear from a broad cross-section of the community and complement feedback gathered through Council's other engagement and consultation activities.
Bringing together people from different backgrounds, ages, locations and life experiences, the panel provides valuable community perspectives on some of the region's biggest opportunities and challenges.
Panel members take part in discussions and activities designed to help them learn more about key issues facing the Sunshine Coast. They then share their views, experiences and ideas to help inform Council's directions and decision-making.
Since its first session September 2025, the Citizens' Panel has helped guide our region’s future across various topics:
- Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games legacy – panel feedback has informed planning for our Games legacy, including increased focus on transport, our environment, celebration opportunities for our community, ways for local businesses to benefit and fostering local sports.
- Budget and services – feedback has driven directions to provide a clearer picture of Council’s financial position and ensure every dollar counts.
- Planning for growth – feedback is helping to inform how we can better communicate with and hear from our community on how we plan for growth.
- Waste (large bulky items) – feedback is supporting directions to make managing bulky waste easier and to encourage a second life for items.
