Celebrating International Volunteer Day

Today, on December 5, we celebrate International Volunteer Day.

International Volunteer Day helps us to celebrate and highlight the power volunteering has in our Sunshine Coast Community.

Our volunteers play an important role in our communities.

Thank you to all those community members who currently give up their time to help those in need and help to make our Sunshine Coast the amazing place it is.

If you’ve ever wondered about becoming a volunteer and helping others, now’s the time!

There are a number of volunteering opportunities available for everyone on the Sunshine Coast, including Council programs like Bush Care and helping local sporting clubs in the canteen.

Volunteering benefits include:

  • providing a sense of achievement and purpose
  • feeling part of the community
  • feeling better about yourself by improving self-esteem and confidence
  • sharing talents, learning new skills and creating a better work-life balance
  • combating stress, loneliness, social isolation, and depression
  • meeting new people, which can help with feeling more connected and valued.

Sunshine Coast Council acknowledges the Sunshine Coast Country, home of the Kabi Kabi peoples and the Jinibara peoples, the Traditional Custodians, whose lands and waters we all now share. We wish to pay respect to their Elders – past, present and emerging, and acknowledge the important role First Nations people continue to play within the Sunshine Coast community.
