Living, learning and connecting like never before … get ready for a fun-filled program of activities brought to you by Sunshine Coast Council.
Sunshine Coast Libraries are hosting an exciting calendar of events and workshops for people of all ages to celebrate Queensland Seniors month in October.
Highlights include the chance to relive the bold fashions, big hair and wonderful soundtrack of the Aussie film classic, Muriel’s Wedding, and fascinating workshops about health and wellness, tips on taking great snaps on your mobile phone, and how you can make a difference as a volunteer.
Queensland Seniors Month recognises the valuable contribution of seniors in the community, whether as a volunteer or in the workforce, as a community leader or carer, grandparent or advocate.
Seniors Month also provides opportunities to promote positive community attitudes towards older people and ageing, facilitate community participation and enhance community connections. The initiatives align with the Queensland Government and Council on the Ageing (COTA) Queensland’s vision of building age-friendly communities.
COTA’s theme this year is Social Connections and connecting with one another has never been more important. Queensland Senior’s Month will provide opportunities for people of all ages, cultures, and abilities to connect through inclusive events and activities.
Seniors Month runs from 1–31 October 2022.
Daytime screening of Muriel’s Wedding at the Cinema
Celebrate Queensland Seniors month with a daytime screening of the Australian classic film Muriel’s Wedding at the Strand Cinema Caloundra on Tuesday, October 18.
Hosted by Sunshine Coast Libraries, come along and enjoy the bold fashions, big hair, and feel-good soundtrack of Muriel’s Wedding.
Tickets are on sale now for $10 per person and include a complimentary choc-top ice-cream.
_Muriel's Wedding_ is a 1994 Australian comedy-drama film written and directed by P.J. Hogan. The film, which stars Toni Collette, Rachel Griffiths, Jeanie Drynan, Sophie Lee, and Bill Hunter, focuses on the socially awkward Muriel whose ambition is to have a glamorous wedding and improve her personal life by moving from her dead-end hometown, the fictional Porpoise Spit, to Sydney.

**Special Grandparent storytelling session
**Join Sunshine Coast Libraries for a special Grandparent’s storytelling session at the Brightwater Community Park Story Seat on Wednesday October 5.
There will be games, storytime and lots of fun. Be sure to pack a blanket, morning tea and a hat.
When: Wednesday, October 5, from 9.30 -11am

**Free workshops, programs and sessions with Sunshine Coast Libraries
**Explore the range of exciting sessions hosted by Libraries during Senior’s Month.
Learn the art of crochet with the Country Women’s Craft Group. The introduction to crochet session will teach the essentials of typing a slip knot, chain stitches and progress to single and double crochet stitches.
Hear from qualified Naturopath Cassandra Cook on how to balance hormones and manage hormonal symptoms like irritability, fatigue, low libido, weight gain or sugar cravings.
Owner of the Sustainable Health and Wellness Clinic, Sandra shares her tips on what to eat for healthy hormones and how hormonal imbalances can be associated with thyroid, ovaries, and the adrenals.
Enjoy a fun, free hands-on workshop with Aromatherapist Denise Lynds, from Aminya Natural Therapies Academy. Practise giving a reflexology hand massage using aromatherapy oils. Try different blends targeted at stress, sleep and motivation. Find out how to safely dilute and blend essential oils.

Heritage Talk
Discover local heritage events at Bankfoot House and Landsborough Museum. Delve into flood histories of Southeast Queensland with Dr Margaret Cook.

Sunshine Coast Open House is the region’s largest public architecture and design festival with behind-the-scenes tours and special experiences.
