Looking for a peaceful escape by the coast? This hidden gem is just metres from Alexandra Beach – yet feels worlds away.

Suitability

The Alex Forest Conservation Walk is a 1 km gentle bush walk, with some gradual rises and steps. Not suitable for wheelchairs or prams, but perfect for walkers.

Dogs are welcome on-leash.

Highlights

Tucked just 250m from the beach and busy Aerodrome Road, this quiet reserve offers 1 km of trails through 5.7 hectares of beautifully revegetated forest.

Along the way, you’ll wander through a mix of habitats – from wet eucalypt and open forest to pockets of lowland rainforest.

Keep an eye out for:

  • Towering Flooded Gum and Tallowwood trees
  • Cabbage palms and lush greenery
  • Microbats and ringtail possums
  • Curious bush turkeys

It’s a small but surprisingly diverse sanctuary right in the heart of Alex.

Afterwards

Make a morning of it:

  • Wander through nearby Nelson Park (Duck Pond Park)
  • Visit the Alex Community Garden
  • Or stroll back to the beach for a swim and a coffee or snack
