Calling all Sunny Coast screen creatives

Do you want to make award-winning film and TV on the Coast? The Sunny Coast Showdown wants you!

The Sunny Coast Showdown will return in 2024 with entries opening from January.

Calling screenwriters, screen creatives and screen producers: Enter the Sunny Coast Showdown and you could win $1000 plus have your project fully-funded and professionally produced.

The Sunny Coast Showdown Screen Incubator and Showcase will return in 2024 with entries opening from January for local screenwriters, filmmakers and crew to produce and deliver projects and then showcase them at a community festival event in June.  

Proudly sponsored by Sunshine Coast Council, the Sunny Coast Showdown will accept entries from January 15 to February 12, with six winners to be announced on February 19, 2024.

The event is a not-for-profit talent incubator that provides funding, support and mentoring to produce film and TV ideas and is open to greater-Sunshine Coast residents or teams with at least one local resident. 

It aims to boost the screen industry in the region and is also calling for cast, crew, volunteers and sponsors. 

Sunny Coast Showdown 2023 projects have won more than 40 laurels and awards from domestic and international film festivals.

Award winning films include Showdown’s First Nation documentary Skate or Cry which was made by a majority Indigenous crew and has won major awards at the LA Documentary Film Festival and the Los Angeles Film Awards.

Bin Day, a zombie apocalypse comedy written and directed by Beerwah’s Ryan Neil Butler, took out the Fun Is Good Bill Murray Comedic Shorts Award at the 2023 Twin Cities Film Festival in Minnesota.
