A journey through Yandina – 1.8km

Explore the historical streets of Yandina with the family.

This walk is suitable for all ages, and great for visitors looking to the explore the township.

As one of the first towns in the Sunshine Coast area, Yandina is overflowing with historical treasures.

The walk commences from Lions Park, where the kids can enjoy a quick run around on the playground, or a short stroll down to the creek.

To begin, follow the pathway north into town. With many of the original buildings and heritage streetscape preserved, it’s a wonderful journey down memory lane. The walk follows the CBD pathway down to the Railway Station and Cenotaph.

From here you have a great view of the Yandina Hotel, which was first built in 1888.

As you continue along the town journey, you will catch a glance of Mount Ninderry – one of the Coast’s iconic attractions.

You will then find yourself approaching the Yandina Community Gardens – at the Blue House.

The permaculture gardens were established for the community to gain practical skills in growing their own and is run by local volunteers.

Yandina Sports Complex adjoins the gardens, housing a large number of recreational fields, skate park, basketball court, picnic tables and playground.

If you are here on a Saturday morning, take some time to wander the markets and purchase some great local produce and plants.

Here the journey ends, however you will quickly discover there is so much more to discover in this town – take the time to explore all the history and beauty.

Yandina township is surrounded by natural experiences. From climbing Mount Ninderry, to discovering the popular waterfalls of Wappa Dam, or by heading across the Maroochy Rive and explore Dunethin Rocks. And of course, Yandina is home to The Ginger Factory! The opportunities are endless.

The hinterland township of Yandina is located just off the Bruce Highway. Follow Bruce Highway/Motorway to Yandina Coolum Road and take exit 215. Turn left into Fleming Street and travel a short distance before veering left into Old Cobb and Co Lane. Here there is an unsealed area you can park (limited) and begin your journey into town.
