There's no doubt about it, we love to dance, and now there will be more opportunities to experience, make and enjoy dance with the launch of a three-year development initiative DANCE.HERE.NOW.

The program offers opportunities for artists to perform, rehearse and develop, as well as a range of events and activities for those of us who just love to dance.

Arts portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said the initiative – a key outcome from the region’s inaugural Arts Plan 2018 - 2038- was funded by the Regional Arts Development Fund and led by council in partnership with local dance leaders.

“The program will create more places to dance and create, more opportunities to see and enjoy dance and encourage more people to participate in dance,” Cr Baberowski said.

“We are fortunate to be guided by our impressive steering group, who live and breathe dance and can offer exceptional industry advice.”

Sunshine Coast acknowledges our first nations people as the first artists and dancers in the region and are working with local communities to highlight and celebrate this as a part of the program.

Community participation will be a key component of the program with Dance.Here.Now supporting and promoting the many great options already alive and well on the Sunshine Coast.

DANCE.HERE.NOW. kicked off at a special ‘One Night in Nambour’ event, where Guru Dudu led a silent disco through the streets of Nambour – now home to two new dance studios.

LJ Projects Studio is an all-purpose dance studio that can be hired through council’s Creative Spaces website and the 2nd Space studio next door, will host a variety of dance residencies and industry development programs.

Just two months in, completed residencies include Lisa Wilson Projects, First Nations dance artist Katina Olsen in partnership with Ausdance QLD and Sunshine Coast based dance artist Courtney Scheu.

Sunshine Coast Council acknowledges the Sunshine Coast Country, home of the Kabi Kabi peoples and the Jinibara peoples, the Traditional Custodians, whose lands and waters we all now share. We wish to pay respect to their Elders – past, present and emerging, and acknowledge the important role First Nations people continue to play within the Sunshine Coast community.
